Tiki pressed the cell phone to her ear and glanced over her shoulder. She should have made this phone call before she went to bed with Lake. But what was done was done and truth be told, she didnât regret it. They were both adults and this was a rebound thing. Sheâd be able to act as a professional and she suspected Lake would be too.
But she wanted to make sure.
Lake sat at the table at his campsite with a fresh mug of coffee while he stared at the computer screen and her latest notes on an outline that they had hammered out late last night between wild passionate sex and round four this morning.
The song âSave a Horse, Ride a Cowboyâ filled her brain.
She hadnât had that much sex since sheâd been in college and was surprised by Lakeâs stamina.
He used the word shocked to describe it. This morning he said he didnât think heâd be able to and that if he could, it would absolutely kill all the sexual tension between them because heâd be utterly exhausted.
Well, they were both completely drained physically.
However, they still stared at each as though they were horny teenagers. Even so, they agreed they needed a break from all the nakedness and decided to focus on the writing. Since eight this morning, all theyâd been doing was plotting, writing, and arguing.
Which didnât help the sparks flying. As a matter of fact, all the sparring about what they should write about and how the characters should evolve made her want to dance around the campfire without her clothes on.
âHey, sis. Is everything okay?â Tayla asked after she picked up on the third ring.
âYes and no,â Tiki said as her sisterâs voice snapped her back to the present. Sheâd been gone all of three nights and she knew her family had been worried she might not even make it that long, which annoyed her for a different reason.
âWhatâs wrong? Do you need help with something? Are you lonely? I can come spend a night or two if you want.â
âNo. Thatâs not why Iâm calling, but thanks for thinking Iâd suck at being alone,â Tiki said with an exasperated sigh. She completely understood why her sister would come at her this way, but it didnât make her feel any better.
âOh, come on. I didnât mean it like it sounded. Did you ever think that maybe I wanted a night away? Between opening my own boutique, designing a new line of clothing, and planning a wedding, Iâm going crazy.â
Well, bloody hell. Tiki should have been more sensitive. Her sister did have a lot on her plate. But the last thing Tiki needed was anyone from her family showing up right now. That would be disastrous.
âIâm sorry,â Tiki said. âPlease donât be mad, but I need to be alone.â
âI get it. I do.â Tayla sighed.
This was going to be awkward. And bring up a dozen questions. But it couldnât be avoided. âIs Gael close by?â
âHeâs in the other room.
